Embarrassing Acne Scars

Written by admin on

acne scars can be embarrassing and seemingly impossible to get rid of once they are formed.  There are techniques for using make-up to cover the scars which can be beneficial for women, but is not helpful for men who have acne scars.  There are certain creams on the market today that claim to be of benefit for acne scar removal but really have little to no effect on the scarring of the skin due to acne.  The only means to get rid of the scarring is to have some sort of treatment done by professionals to reduce or remove the scarring.

Types of Treatment

The types of treatment depend on the types of acne scarring that a person has.  This will vary from individual to individual and can range from mild scarring to the deep pock marks that are more obvious.  For milder acne scarring, there are several techniques that have been found to be beneficial but are also quite costly.  The first of these is a dermabrasion which can cost fifteen hundred dollars per treatment needed, and there is usually more than one treatment that is needed to completely treat the problem areas.  Another treatment is laser resurfacing which is even more expensive, running about three thousand dollars per treatment and also usually requires more than one treatment.  Chemical peels are a little less expensive but also require more treatments to get the effects desired, running about seven hundred fifty dollars per treatment.

Often these treatments will be used in conjunction with each other since that is helpful in reducing the different types of scarring that a person’s skin might have.  More in depth acne scar treatments, for deeper scarring may be used in conjunction with the above methods as well.  There are punch techniques that help with deep acne scars that run fifty dollars per scar, which can be quite expensive.  There is also augmentation which uses collagen injections and can run anywhere from three hundred to seven hundred dollars per cubic centimeter treated.  This type of treatment is not permanent either, so the expense will have to be repeated every three to six months.  Saline injections can also be used for acne scarring that is a little less deep and usually runs about one hundred dollars per injection, which is quite pricey since at least four to five injections are usually needed.

Individuals who are looking for solutions to their acne scarring problems are recommended to talk to their doctor or dermatologist about the solutions that are right for their particular scarring issues.  These treatments are usually not covered by insurance, so individuals must be ready to cover the entire cost.  In addition, there is recovery time needed after some of the treatments that can last up to two weeks, which means time off from jobs that cannot be counted under sick leave.
